Mt. Albert Baptist Church

This physical brief is to double the size of the church auditorium and build new lobby and lounge spaces. The existing building is a handsome example of Modern architecture so the church exension to the south seeks to retain the existing street presence. The lobby and lounge stretches out to New North Road and a lounge terrace creates an open glazed relationship to the public street. A long term masterplan proposes the sloping centre area be rebuilt as a courtyard and become a cloister heart to the complex. The old church and Jubilee Hall can be altered to create glazed corridors around this courtyard to connect the different activities across the site.
