Snells Beach Primary School
Brewer Davidson and Naylor Love Contractors were awarded the commission by the Ministry of Education to design and build a new primary school in the growing coastal township of Snells Beach. The classrooms were arranged into clusters of two buildings with a shared open courtyard space between. The clusters define year groupings and allow for staged construction. ESD initiatives include rain-water harvesting and the filtering of stormwater through swales and rain gardens. Landscaping was designed using local species which were sourced from the surrounding area. The school is one of the few NZ schools to win an OECD Best School Design.
